The Instagram Hashtag Strategy Your Brand Needs to be Using

Whether you are a new business, an actor or a well-established company, you should have a social media marketing strategy in place. A big part of that strategy should be the top 3: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Instagram is a photo sharing platform which means the photo quality and quantity should be top notch and consistent. But there’s more to Instagram than snapping a photo and posting it. Are you posting relevant hashtags with each post? If you aren’t, you should be! Tagging your vacation photo with various targeted and niche hashtags like #Travelholic will lead to your photo getting much more exposure, reach and engagement from new people who do not currently follow you. At Savory PR, one of our favorite Instagram hashtag strategies is the 10X10X10 #Instagram hashtag strategy. This is how it breaks down:

• 10 RELEVANT NICHE HASHTAGS WITH A REACH 2K – 50K POSTS
• 10 RELEVANT HASHTAGS WITH A REACH OF 51K – 300K POSTS
• 10 RELEVANT HASHTAGS WITH A REACH OF 500K – 10M POSTS

For example, if you own a Greek restaurant in Miami, Florida and have an Instagram profile for that restaurant, you should identify 30 hashtags related to your industry, location or subject of the photo. Research different hashtags on both Instagram and platforms like https://hashtagify.me/. Look for hashtags that fall under different traffic categories; find some hashtags with 50,000 posts, 10,000 posts, 500,000 posts and over 1 million+ posts. And then use 5-10 of each.

A great example for the Greek Miami restaurant would be to use popular local hashtags like #SoBe or #MiamiFoodie. You want to use local, niche hashtags that are seen by local Miami people who love food and love eating out. In addition, we would recommend you use broad popular hashtags with 1Million+ posts like #Instafoodie, #foodie, #greekfood, etc.

It is important to note that every Instagram profile and subsequent industry is different and it’s important for you or a social media agency that you have hired to test out different kinds of hashtags to see what delivers the best engagement results.
